Valley of Zin

Is it a mystery? Is it a cookbook? It's both! Geraldine Duncann has cooked up a tasty who-done-it with over thirty excellent recipes. In this, her first novel, veteran cookbook author Geraldine Duncann has combined her love of good food, fine wines and interesting people to produce a first class adventure in the culinary mystery genre. You will meet widowed Josephine St. John, her two sons and vintner, Ben Penella, her father-in-law, a cantankerous curmudgeon, caught in a political time warp. The plot begins to ferment when Jo's boyfriend, Detective Allen Younger brings her oldest son, Lee in for questioning after the body of a pregnant young woman is found at the Penella winery in a bin of old growth Zinfandel grapes. And, the book contains a bonus: travel tips and historical tidbits about the Sonoma wine country as well as recipes for the delectable dishes mentioned.

3A Taste of Sonoma  Aug 29, 2008
Geraldine Duncan's Valley of Zin is a delightful romp through the historic town and surrounding vineyards of Sonoma, California. Interweaving simple Zinfandel wine-infused recipes into a straight-forward little 'who-dunnit' Duncan paints a vivid picture of family life here in Wine Country. Never mind the odd typo here and there, for the illustrations and maps and colorful cast of characters are all the more enchanting for the personal approach of self-publishing. Duncan has a wealth of knowledge on the history of food and wine and Valley of Zin is easily consumed in one tasty sitting.

4Tasty and different.  Feb 27, 2008
Written in the same breezy yet informative style as her wonderful cookbooks, Valley of Zin triumphs in catching the spirit and lifestyle of the wine community in Northern California. The gorgeous meals the characters enjoy are truly mouth-watering but happily the author gives you the recipes at the end of the book, and they are all easy, straightforward and truly delicious.
